Chapter 266
"The agent noticed the woman in front of him. She seemed unsteady on her feet. ""Are you alright?""
""I'm fine."" Cassie handed him a business card. ""I would like to purchase this property. However, I would like to conceal my identity. I don’t want the previous owner to know it's me. I'd also be willing to offer you a higher commission.""
""Oh, sure, no problem at all!"" the agent was beyond excited, not believing his luck. The mansion was selling just as he walked up to it, far too easy.
Getting back into her car, Cassie felt as if her heart had been hollowed out.
She had signed the divorce papers, but hadn't expected Joseph to leave Madison so soon.
This meant they were no longer in the same city, and it was likely they would never meet again.
Why was it that, despite having accepted the reality, it still hurt so much she couldn't breathe?
Clutching the diamond, her face was wet with tears.
...
Forty minutes later, she walked into the law firm's lobby wearing sunglasses.
The receptionist immediately recognized her and let out a heartfelt sigh. Mr. Hernandez's incredibly handsome face wouldn't be seen every day anymore. ""Are you looking for Mr. Hernandez? He's left.""
""I'm here to see Noah.""
The receptionist quickly contacted Noah's assistant.
Soon after, Cassie was ushered upstairs.
In the office, she pushed a box across the table to Noah. ""There’s a diamond inside the box. Please pass it on to him.""
""Joseph won't accept it,"" Noah said helplessly. ""You better take it back. I bet he'll throw it away once he sees it.""
""Let him throw it away then. It's worth three hundred million dollars; it's too precious for me to keep. I don't want to owe him anything."" After saying this, Cassie got up and left.
In the afternoon, Cassie received a call from the police station. Robert wanted to see her one last time.
The sentences for Robert and Helen had been determined; as the assailant, Helen received twenty years.
Regarding Robert, his role as an accomplice garnered him a sentence of ten years. Given their ages, this term was tantamount to a life sentence.
She pondered for a while, then decided to pay a visit.
When Cassie saw Robert, he looked a decade older. His hair had turned completely gray.
""What do you want from me now?"" asked Cassie with a chill in her voice, devoid of any warmth towards Robert.
Robert replied, ""I regret it all, and I've accepted my fate. I've transferred all my shares in Peace Group to you. All I ask is that you spare Olivia. After all, she's your only kin.""
""Like she hasn't done enough evil herself,"" Cassie sneered. ""Did she ever consider that I was her sister when she was hurting me?""
Through clenched teeth, Robert accused, ""Did you have someone go after her? She's never visited us in jail.""
Stunned, Cassie fell silent. ""I've been swamped lately and haven't had a chance to do anything to her. It makes sense she hasn’t come to see you. You barely raised her, and for someone as ruthless as she is, you can't expect her to harbor any filial affection. She’s probably avoiding you like the plague.""
Robert's eyes widened in shock, as if he had been hit hard by this revelation.
But then the realization struck him – of course, Olivia was even more self-centered. How could he expect anything different from a daughter like her?
Blood relations didn't mean much if they were broke; she probably wouldn't even acknowledge them."
