Chapter 1398 Come with Me to See Joseph

What does Megan mean to Michael?

Megan used to be Michael's dream girl, his first love and all that jazz.

But then, she turned into the biggest regret of his life. Megan stomped all over Michael's pride.

And man, she did a lot of messed-up stuff.

When Megan spotted him, she freaked out and tried to bolt. Jonah jumped up and grabbed her, "Megan, don't run."

"You've got the wrong girl." Megan kept her head down, avoiding eye contact.

"I recognized you from last time." Jonah yanked her down into a chair.

Michael's face was ice-cold, "Jonah, what's your deal today?"

"Michael, I just saw her last time. Never thought she'd end up as a waitress. It's kinda sad." Jonah had seen how Michael used to protect Megan, knew how much he cared. He didn't think Michael would forget her so easily.

At the last party, Jonah noticed the distance between Laura and Michael.

"Jonah, I'm really not Megan." Megan kept her head down, hiding her face with her hands, dodging Michael's gaze.

"You say you're not, but you still know I'm Jonah?" Jonah sighed, "Megan, weren't you some hotshot psychologist? How'd you end up like this?"

Michael slammed the table and stood up, eyes blazing with anger, "She did this to herself. She deserves it. Now that you're here, come with me to see Joseph."

He stormed over, dragging Megan off the chair, "Joseph and the others are looking for you everywhere. You need to fix Joseph's memory."

"I don't know what you're talking about." Megan was yanked to the ground, her face pale as a ghost.

"Michael, what are you doing?" Jonah, seeing her pitiful state, quickly stepped in.

"What do you know?" Michael snapped, "This woman is no good. She used me, kept me on the side, and when I was no longer useful, she ditched me without a second thought. Worse, she was heartless and did all kinds of bad stuff."

Megan bit her lip, kept her head down, silent, tears hitting the floor.

Jonah couldn't stand it, "Michael, you're really getting her wrong."

"Wrong?" Michael laughed bitterly, "I saw with my own eyes, her and that Jacob all lovey-dovey going into a hotel."

Jonah sighed, "There are things I didn't want to say, but if I don't speak up now, she might get hurt by you."

"Jonah." Megan nervously cut in, "It's all in the past. I don't want to bring it up again."

"But we can't let people keep misunderstanding you." Jonah said seriously, "Michael, back then Megan and that Jacob were just acting."

"Acting?" Michael sneered, "Do you think I'm an idiot?"

"It's true. She originally asked me," Jonah said. "Back then, you got booted from the Jude Family, the Ocean Blue group was tanking, and you were drifting from your friends. Everything was falling apart. Megan saw you were miserable, even when you were with her. She got your ambitions and the pain of not being able to go home. But she knew as long as you were with her, your parents wouldn't forgive you, nor would your family. And you wouldn't break up with her easily. So she started hanging around hotels, trying to push you away."

"Jacob was just a guy she picked to fake being close with in front of you. It was all a setup. She asked me first, but I didn't want to mess things up with you. If you went back to the Jude Family, pissing you off wouldn't be smart. She really went all out for you."

Michael was floored.

Megan was just acting with Jacob?

All those harsh words were to make him break up with her?

She did it to help him patch things up with his parents?

Michael almost bought it.

But then he remembered how Megan kept messing with Joseph's memory and her sketchy ties with David. He snapped back to reality.

"Enough, Jonah. I don't know what she told you, but I'm not buying it," Michael said with disgust. "I've seen how Megan is, always chasing money and benefits."

"If I'm lying, may karma get me," Jonah swore. "If you don't believe me, ask Jacob. I ran into him later, and he said Megan once treated his mom and cured her. He owed her and agreed to act with her. Honestly, if she was that kind of woman, I wouldn't have let you see her. It's just sad seeing her like this now."

Michael stared hard at Jonah.

Even though his bond with Jonah wasn't as tight as with Joseph or Lucas, they'd known each other for over ten years. He knew him pretty well.

If Jonah was lying, it didn't seem likely since he swore. And there was no reason to lie for Megan.

Michael was torn.

Could it be that Megan really didn't do anything with Jacob?

And didn't wrong him?

But even if she didn't, she still did a lot of messed-up stuff.

Joseph and the others even said she had a shady thing with David and swapped Esmeralda's ashes with a dog's.

Those were some seriously messed-up moves.

"Jonah, stop. The past is the past," Megan suddenly smiled weakly. "It's not so bad now. Our Zenith Family never had high status. I once liked Joseph and Michael, but it was just wishful thinking. It's normal that his family didn't like me. Now that he's settled down, I really don't want to mess things up for him. This is fine."

She finished talking and bent down to pick up the broken glass on the floor.

Michael looked at her thin wrist, bones sticking out.

Megan, who was once like a goddess in Michael's eyes, had fallen so far. She was now wearing a rough waitress clothes, her face dull and lifeless, just a shadow of her former self.

"Don't pick it up. Your hand's bleeding from the glass," Jonah reminded. "I'll get someone to clean it up."

"No, if the manager finds out, he'll say I'm clumsy," Megan said, panicking.
