Chapter 1592 Stop Thinking About Me

Early Morning

The two parted ways in the Presidential Palace parking lot.

When Laura returned to the bedroom, Arabella was there with Maeve, who was sleeping. Seeing Laura return, Arabella whispered, "She just woke up and drank half a bottle of milk."

"Did she cry?" Laura asked.

"No."

"Thank you, Arabella," Laura said, feeling a bit embarrassed. She had been out making love with Derek late at night, and Arabella, who now worked for Derek, surely knew about their affair.

Arabella smiled and said, "Derek treats me well; it's what I should do."

Laura felt awkward. "Derek is great. I know we shouldn't be in love, sorry, Arabella, but for now, we need your help to cover for us."

Arabella sighed, "Lately, I've often seen Derek with you and Maeve. You really look like a family of three. You two are well-matched in age and appearance. It's a pity about all that happened before. But you're so nice; the President and First Lady like you. I believe if you put in some effort, they will accept your relationship with Derek."

Laura knew Arabella was trying to comfort her. She understood that some things weren't that easy, but she still nodded, grateful for Arabella's kindness.

After Arabella left, Laura had just changed into her pajamas when she received a Facebook message from Derek: [I noticed you were walking slowly. Are you in pain?]

Laura's body stiffened.

She really didn't want to deal with Derek anymore.

Laura: [Go to sleep, you're annoying.]

Derek: [You didn't say that in bed earlier. Women are so fickle.]

Laura: [I'm not talking to you anymore.]

She pulled the covers over her head, but she was so excited that she didn't fall asleep until dawn.

In a half-asleep state, she felt someone touching her head.

She found it annoying and turned over, wrapping herself in the blanket and sleeping soundly.

When she woke up again, it was already 11 AM.

She was startled and hurried downstairs, finding Arabella playing with Maeve.

Laura scratched her head in frustration. "Arabella, did Maeve make any noise when she woke up this morning? I didn't hear a thing."

"Derek came by this morning. He didn't want Maeve to wake you, so he took her downstairs," Arabella said with a smile. "Maeve even played with him for a while."

Laura was stunned. "What time did he come by?"

"Around 7 AM. He's at work now," Arabella said sympathetically. "He can't even rest on weekends."

Laura felt a pang of sympathy too. He had come back around 4 AM last night and had only slept for a few hours.

Upstairs, while washing up, she picked up her phone and saw a Facebook message from Derek sent at 10 AM: [Baby, are you up yet?]

Laura: [I just got up. You didn't sleep much last night. Are you okay?]

Derek: [No, I didn't sleep at all.]

Laura: [Not at all? Why?]

Derek: [When I got back, I was too happy and excited to sleep. Later, I was anxious and couldn't sleep.]

Laura: [What?]

She could understand the happiness and excitement, but the anxiety puzzled her.

Derek: [I was anxious because I was worried I didn't perform well last night. After all, I don't have much experience.]

Laura felt embarrassed and didn't want to talk anymore.

Derek: [Why aren't you replying? Did I disappoint you with my performance?]

Laura: [You're so annoying. Aren't you at work? How do you have so much free time?]

Derek: [Yes, I'm at work, but I can't concentrate today. All I can think about is you.]

Laura smiled secretly and replied: [Now, I order you to stop thinking about me, focus on your work, and come home early to rest.]

Derek: [I'd love to, but I can't. Whenever I get quiet, all I can think about is how beautiful and charming you were last night.]

Laura: [Alright, stop talking about last night.]

After a moment of hesitation, she replied: [I thought you were great last night. I really liked it.]

Her face turned red after sending the message.

But she didn't retract it.

Soon, Derek replied: [Thank you, baby. I'll keep trying.]

Laura buried her face in the blanket in embarrassment.

In the evening, Carl and Derek didn't come back, so Laura and Violet dined together.

While waiting for the food, Violet suddenly asked with a smile, "Do you have time tomorrow, Sunday?"

"I usually spend weekends with Maeve," Laura thought for a moment and said.

"Then leave Maeve with Arabella tomorrow morning and accompany me to a charity event," Violet said. "The Serindale couple is visiting these days, and the First Lady of Serindale is hosting a charity luncheon tomorrow. Derek can't make it, so come with me."

Laura was taken aback. She had accompanied Violet to a few parties before, but they were all domestic high-society events. This was her first time attending an event with a First Lady from another country, which was entirely different.

"Don't want to go?" Violet elegantly picked up her fork and asked with a smile.

"I'm afraid I'll be too nervous. Godmother, why don't you take Beatrice Belle instead?" Laura asked nervously.

Beatrice was Violet's brother's daughter, currently holding a significant position in the Madison Music Association. Laura had met her a few times.

Violet sighed, "I had Beatrice accompany me to a few such events before, but she was too nervous and eager to impress, which disappointed me."

Laura understood. At such international social events, the hostess was of high status, and the person accompanying Violet needed to be low-key when necessary, smart when needed, and always composed.

But Laura also understood Beatrice's feelings. Who wouldn't want to appear at such events? Leaving an impression on these ladies could mean limitless future prospects.

Of course, aside from future prospects, just making it to the news would make others envious.

"But I'm afraid I'll do worse than Laura," Laura said, scared.

"You won't. Your ambitions are different from Beatrice's," Violet said with a faint smile. "I didn't plan to take you initially. I know your heart isn't in this. But the Serindale First Lady somehow heard about my Goddaughter and asked me to bring you. Don't be too nervous. Meeting these people a few times will teach you a lot. I'm not talking about connections, but perspective and attitude."

Laura was speechless.

How could it not change her? After dealing with such important international figures, Laura figured she could stay calm in any situation.

"Alright, but if I don't do well, please don't be mad."
