Chapter 1306 Giving Gifts
"Hey, you wanna go see Isabella?" Declan suddenly blurted out.
"Nah, no point. If I go, she'll just accuse me of trying to steal you away. She's always got something to say." Cassie shook her head firmly.
"Sounds like you're pretty fed up with her," Declan said with a sly grin. "But do you know how loaded she is? She might even have more cash than me."
"Yeah, I know. She owns Emerald Haven Island and has a ton of oil money." Cassie shrugged.
Declan raised an eyebrow. "Then you get that as her daughter, even a tiny slice of that inheritance would make you one of the richest women in the world."
"Why would I wanna be the richest woman in the world? I'd just be a target, need a bunch of bodyguards, and could get kidnapped easily." Cassie laughed. "I grew up rich. I've got a good life and people in Madison already envy me. I have everything I need, can buy whatever I want, live in a mansion, drive a sports car. That's enough for me."
Declan gave a faint smile. "You've got a good head on your shoulders, but sadly, a lot of people are greedy."
"Maybe it's 'cause I was raised by my grandparents. They pretty much gave me whatever I wanted when I was a kid," Cassie said, a bit wistfully. "I'm outta here."
After she left, Declan's assistant walked over, looking grim. "Ms. Brooks just left?"
"Her feelings for Isabella are probably long gone," Declan sighed and shook his head. "Isabella's too foolish."
"It's a shame, Ms. Brooks is a good girl." the assistant was quiet for a moment before reluctantly pulling out a paper bag and a note. "David sent a message. He said if you don't back off from the Hernandez Group and stay out of the Wit Group's business in Yugrot, he'll start cutting off Mr. Wittelsbach's fingers, one by one."
Declan looked at the finger in the bag. It was his son's, with a scar on it.
He had to admit, David knew how to hit where it hurt.
"Mr. Wittelsbach," the assistant said, pained.
"Tell Carl to speed up the case and spread more bad press about the Wit Group abroad," Declan said coldly. "And let David know he can cut all he wants, but if he gets desperate, I'll make him wish he was never born."
"Got it," the assistant replied.
After he left, Declan punched the tree next to him, blood dripping from his knuckles.
He muttered coldly, "David, I'll make you wish you were dead."
At the hospital.
Marigold walked into the fancy VIP ward with a basket of fruit.
David was leaning against the headboard, a laptop on the small table by the bed. Whatever he was looking at had him looking pretty cold.
But when he saw Marigold come in, he immediately smiled warmly. "Ms. Dixon, what brings you here?"
"I heard you had an accident. My dad asked me to check on you," Marigold said coolly, tossing the fruit basket onto the table.
To be real, she couldn't stand David. The guy was slippery. Even though she was a bit jealous of Cassie, she totally got why Cassie felt the way she did, woman to woman. David had nothing on Joseph in the charm department, and in business, he was a lightweight too. He just liked to cut corners and play dirty.
But Marigold's dad said they needed a guy like him around.
"Thanks," David gave a slight smile. "Ms. Dixon, take a seat."
"No, I'm good. My dad was fuming this morning. He heard about the Wit Group's scandal overseas. He wants to know if the Wit Group is going under."
David clenched his fists under the blanket.
He hadn't expected that after sending Everett's finger to Declan in the morning, Declan would stir up a scandal for the Wit Group by the afternoon.
Now, the top trending topics abroad were all about the Wit Group's drugs causing deaths. Various countries had already classified the Wit Group's products as banned substances. Any company using the Wit Group's raw materials for their products would also be banned.
From 2 pm until now, his phone had been blowing up. Many manufacturers, both domestic and international, were demanding refunds and canceling their contracts with the Wit Group.
The stock price had tanked as soon as the market opened, causing panic among shareholders.
David's net worth had taken a nosedive, and to make matters worse, many of his reliable business partners abroad were now ghosting him.
Internationally, he was stuck.
"Ms. Dixon, tell Ralph not to sweat it. I'll handle this."
"How? Everyone knows Declan's behind this. Didn't you say that with his son in your hands, Declan wouldn't dare touch you?" Marigold cut him off with a sneer. "And now? Our relatives abroad are all in trouble. Do you know those relatives are constantly at our door, asking my dad for help? But what can my dad do? Those are his trusted allies built over decades, all ruined by you now."
David looked like he was about to lose it, his fist tightening under the blanket.
He took a deep breath, but his ribs ached. "Don't worry, I'll take down the Hernandez Group. Lars is my right-hand man, and Joseph is just a fool now."
"So what if Lars is your guy? Robert didn't get the Hernandez Group's shares. Declan is even pushing the court to speed up the process. As long as Declan fights this case, Robert has no chance of winning because Isabella gave Olivia nine hundred billion dollars. That's not about nine bucks or a house; the judge will definitely rule in Declan's favor," Marigold sneered.
"No, when Declan and Isabella got married, they signed a prenup. That nine hundred billion dollars belongs to Isabella personally. He has no right to reclaim it," David suddenly said coldly.
Marigold was taken aback. "But that's a private agreement between him and Isabella. The judge doesn't know, and we have no proof. Unless Isabella comes out, but she's in the hospital."
"Then get Isabella out," David said, staring at her intently.
"You got a plan?" Marigold raised an eyebrow.
