Chapter 1265: Keep a Close Watch on Mrs. Wittelsbach
"How's this your fault?" Isabella grabbed Olivia's hand, trying to calm her down. "We just didn't see how ruthless Cassie could be. Honestly, we should've shut them down from the get-go."
Olivia looked super frustrated. "I can't wrap my head around how Everett just vanished without a word. Did Cassie trick him or something?"
"Totally possible," Isabella shot a glare at Declan. "You and your son have been sneaking around with Cassie from the start, especially Everett. He's too trusting, and Cassie's a snake. She probably played him."
"Isabella, now's not the time to fight. Let's just find Everett, okay?" Declan's voice dropped, and he looked more humble.
Olivia bit her lip. "I'm just scared Cassie won't fess up."
Isabella got fired up. "If she doesn't, I'll go straight to Mr. Jude. If he doesn't handle Cassie and Joseph, I'll cut off Madison's route myself."
Declan frowned, his lips twitching, but he stayed quiet.
He just watched Cassie and Olivia, his eyes lingering on Olivia for a moment.
He'd always known about Olivia's little games, but since she was Isabella's daughter, he let it slide for the sake of peace.
Everyone's got their own angles.
But if she thought she could play him right in front of his face, she was dead wrong.
If Declan were a fool, he wouldn't be where he is now.
Olivia seemed like she was trying to mediate, but she was really pointing fingers at Cassie.
If he hadn't had that deep talk with Cassie earlier, he might've bought into Olivia's act.
Honestly, if Everett was with Cassie, he wouldn't be so stressed.
But if Cassie was telling the truth, things could get messy.
He lit a cigarette and sent his guys to check out Silverwood.
By noon, they had news. "Declan, we found Mr. Wittelsbach's assistant's body at the Silverwood police station. Mr. Wittelsbach is missing."
Declan's heart skipped a beat, and Isabella jumped up. "Did you find anything else?"
"The cops saw signs of a struggle. Looks like Mr. Wittelsbach and his assistant were attacked. Mr. Wittelsbach's pretty tough, so it had to be a group ambush."
"Everett's no slouch, and his assistant's got skills too. For one to be missing and the other dead, they must've faced some serious opponents." Olivia covered her mouth, eyes red. "It's all my fault. If I hadn't taken those bodyguards to the Hernandez Group, they wouldn't have been hurt by Dragon's people, and Everett wouldn't have gone out with just one assistant."
Isabella was fuming. "This has to be Cassie's plan. She took out our bodyguards first to get to Everett alone."
Declan saw how riled up she was and had to step in. "You're right. I'll send bodyguards from Neya City right away. I'm heading to the White House to put pressure on Carl."
"By the time our bodyguards get here, it'll be too late. Carl should just arrest her now." Isabella was clearly not happy with Declan's plan.
Declan opened his mouth, then after a beat, said, "Alright, I'll see if Carl's game. This is on me. You stay put and don't go anywhere. It's for your safety."
"Declan, you think Cassie might come after Mom?" Olivia asked, worried.
"She wouldn't dare," Isabella sneered. "If she tries anything, I don't care how many people she brings, they won't be leaving."
Declan didn't say anything and just walked out.
He got into the car, and his assistant was already in the front seat. "Mr. Wittelsbach, are we heading to the White House now?"
Declan glanced at him. "How long until our bodyguards are back on their feet?"
The assistant looked surprised. "At least two to three months."
"Two to three months?" Declan rubbed his temples. "I didn't think we'd get played like this."
"Mr. Wittelsbach, I don't think Everett is in mortal danger. Cassie and her crew probably just want to use him as leverage," the assistant tried to reassure him.
"You think it's Cassie too?" Declan asked with a forced smile.
"Isn't it?" The assistant looked puzzled.
"Of course not, but don't say that in front of Isabella."
Declan lit a cigarette. If he was only forty percent sure Cassie was telling the truth before, now he was eighty percent convinced.
He couldn't believe Isabella had such an annoying daughter like Olivia.
"We still have two bodyguards, right? Have them keep an eye on Isabella. If she tries anything, let me know immediately. And make sure neither she nor Olivia suspects a thing," Declan instructed.
The assistant was taken aback. "You want us to watch Mrs. Wittelsbach?"
"Yes."
Back at the villa.
After Declan left, Isabella stood up and suddenly felt dizzy.
"Mom, you okay?" Olivia quickly supported her.
"Maybe I didn't sleep well last night, worrying about Everett," Isabella said, feeling irritable.
"I get it. You've always been protective of Everett." Olivia sighed. "I'm worried too, but I'm afraid Mr. Jude won't do anything about Cassie. Mr. Jude's nephew and Joseph are tight. Mr. Jude got his power with Joseph's help."
"You're right." Isabella's face darkened.
"I'm scared the longer we wait, the more danger Everett's in." Olivia bit her lip. "Since they dared to capture your son and kill your people, why don't we..."
"Do what?" Isabella asked quickly.
"I know Cassie has a pair of twins," Olivia whispered.
Isabella was stunned. "You mean to capture her kids?"
"Yeah, but we won't hurt them. Just use them to make Cassie hand over Everett. Even if she refuses, we won't harm the kids. They're innocent, but Cassie cares about them. She might just give in," Olivia said.
Isabella quickly caught on. She'd never done something like this before.
"Mom, I'm also worried that if we wait too long, Everett might not make it." Olivia bit her lip. "Think about it, Everett's assistant is dead. Everett must've been hurt in the fight, it's just a matter of how bad."
Isabella already had a headache, and Olivia's words made it worse. Her heart felt like it was being squeezed. She blurted out, "Fine, let's do it your way, but we don't have any bodyguards to pull it off."
