Chapter 946 She Was Foolish, Truly Foolish

Liam continued to shout, "You never loved my mom. For over twenty years, you just used her as a tool, so you don't care about me either."

"Go on," Marcus said, taking a slow drag from his cigarette and exhaling gently.

Liam felt even more disheartened. "In the Hernandez group, you must have an inside man. It was that person who took the Hernandez family's chip data. To cover for him, you diverted Joseph's attention, making him believe I was the one who betrayed the Hernandez family, or rather, making me completely cut off ties with the Hernandez family."

"You're my son, all right, you guessed right," Marcus answered.

He flicked the ash from his cigarette. "Liam, you've disappointed me this time, but since you're my son, I'll give you another chance. Follow me and serve the Chamberlain family well, and there will be a place for you in the Chamberlain family in the future."

"Forget it. Nothing you say is true. Even though you're my dad, I have to admit, I've never seen someone as cold-blooded and despicable as you in my life. Mom gave so much to you, and in the end, you hurt her the most. I will never forgive you." Liam glared at Marcus with hatred.

Marcus laughed, his face full of mockery, and replied, "I don't need your forgiveness, Liam. You overestimate yourself. If you don't want to come back to me, so be it. I have more than one son anyway."

With that, he opened the car door and got in. As the car started, the window rolled down slowly, and Marcus's cold face appeared. "Too bad, even if you leave me, the Hernandez family won't want you."

The car drove away, leaving a trail of exhaust behind.

Liam was left in a daze. Overnight, he had become a traitor to the Hernandez family. No one in the Hernandez family believed him. His father had an illegitimate son outside. It seemed he had nothing left.

Liam sat down on a nearby flower bed in despair, unable to understand how life had turned out this way.

Before, Liam was at least a member of the Hernandez family. From today on, he was nothing.

Marcus drove to the entrance of the Chamberlain Group office building. As soon as he reached the door, someone called out to him.

"Marcus," Mabel called out.

He turned around to see Mabel's haggard and pale face reflected in his eyes.

Once, Mabel was the most beautiful woman in Whisperlyn City. The Hernandez family cherished her, and many men pursued her.

But now, a series of blows had aged her several years, and even her features had become distorted.

Marcus's clear eyes showed a flash of disdain. "What are you doing here?"

Mabel staggered. If she hadn't seen it with her own eyes, she wouldn't have believed that the Marcus who once coaxed and pampered her would show such a look of disgust as if he were looking at something filthy.

The proud Mabel couldn't help but scream, "I ask you why you did this to our Hernandez family, to me. Did you steal the Hernandez family's chip data?"

"I don't know what you're talking about," Marcus said, turning to leave.

"Stop." Mabel grabbed his arm, almost hysterical. "What did our Hernandez family ever do to you? If it weren't for me back then, you wouldn't have what you have today."

"Shut up," Marcus snapped, shaking Mabel off.

Mabel lost her balance and fell to the ground. She looked up at the cold and unfeeling Marcus above her, her eyes filled with despair.

At that moment, she heard a sweet voice call out, "Marcus."

Marcus turned around, his face full of tenderness.

Mabel also looked over and saw a young, beautiful woman walking over, holding the hand of a seven or eight-year-old boy. The boy ran over, threw himself into Marcus's arms, and said, "Daddy."

Mabel felt utterly shocked. She stared wide-eyed at the woman and the child, almost suffocating.

If Mabel wasn't mistaken, that woman was Evelyn, the daughter of the March family. She seemed to be quite close to Megan, and Mabel had run into her a few times at business banquets in Whisperlyn City.

"Mabel." Evelyn glanced at her. "I'm sorry, but Marcus and I have been in love for a long time. This is our child."

Mabel was furious. Evelyn's words felt like a slap across her face.

"Marcus, you bastard," she roared.

Mabel couldn't take it anymore and raised her hand to slap Marcus's refined face. But before she could touch him, Marcus pushed her to the ground again.

"Mabel, I've had enough of you," Marcus said mercilessly, glaring at her. "I've been tired of your temper for a long time. You always wanted everything your way. If it weren't for the Hernandez family behind you, I wouldn't have put up with you for twenty years."

"So, you approached me from the beginning just to use me. Your love was fake." Mabel's eyes filled with tears of despair.

"What else? A woman like you, married twice and with a child from another man, disgusts me," he snapped.

Marcus's words were as sharp as knives. "Now that the Hernandez family is done for, you're no longer a match for me. I'll have someone send you the divorce papers. You'd better sign them immediately."

"Scum." Mabel was so angry that her blood boiled, and her beautiful eyes shot flames of hatred. "You used the Hernandez family, and now you want to kick me out to make room for this woman. Marcus, you're dreaming. I will expose your disgusting true self to the public."

"Go ahead and expose me. Our Chamberlain family now controls the Lundrigans Group's chip usage rights in Serida. Any company that wants chips has to cooperate with us. No media outlet would dare publish negative news about me," Marcus sneered coldly. "But let me remind you, you should think about the other members of the Hernandez family—Joseph, Isaac, Celeste. Crushing them would be as easy as crushing an ant for me."

Mabel felt a chill run through her entire body. Marcus was actually threatening her with her family's lives.

How did she end up entangled with this devil, Marcus, in this lifetime?

"Mabel, sign the papers quickly. I want to become Mrs. Chamberlain as soon as possible," Evelyn said smugly, glancing at Mabel before walking into the Chamberlain family building, arm in arm with Marcus.

Mabel watched their backs. She felt like her past twenty years had been a joke. She used to think Cameron was after the Hernandez family's wealth, and she did everything she could to divorce him.

She had mistreated Joseph all these years, but the gentle and refined Marcus was the one truly coveting the Hernandez family.

It was terrifying. Marcus had constantly played the victim in front of her, pretending to be an artist who only cared about painting. It was all a lie.

Marcus had even had a mistress and a child outside for a long time.

She was foolish, truly foolish. She used to think Joseph was foolish for falling in love with Megan, but she was just as silly.
