Chapter 1039 Joseph Embarrassed Her in Public

In Cassie's mind, David had always been the epitome of virtue.

"Cassie, where's Laura? Why don't you go hang out with her? You might get bored sticking around us all the time," David said with a gentle smile, trying to nudge her away.

"I'm your wife. Isn't it weird for me to just leave like that?" Cassie feigned concern. "Besides, Joseph is here too. You might get the wrong idea."

"I won't. I trust you," David replied sincerely.

Cassie almost believed him. But when she turned around and hid in a discreet spot, she saw David immediately sit next to Ralph and light a cigarette for him.

That sight left Cassie deeply disappointed.

David always kept up a polished image in front of her.

So, what about when she wasn't looking? Did he have another side she didn't know about?

"Mrs. Brooks, there you are," a maid approached. "Ms. Miller has been looking for you everywhere. She wants to introduce you to some people."

"Alright." Cassie nodded and walked towards the courtyard with the maid.

In the backyard, there was a large swimming pool where some people were playing, and others were barbecuing and chatting by the side.

As they passed the pool, the maid suddenly stopped. "Mrs. Brooks, please wait a moment. My shoelace is loose."

As she bent down to tie her shoelace, she suddenly lunged at Cassie.

Cassie's eyes flashed, and she sidestepped with a slight smile, causing the maid to fall directly into the pool.

The huge splash drew everyone's attention.

"Help! Someone fell into the water," Cassie pretended to scream in fear.

Someone immediately rescued the embarrassed maid from the pool.

Joseph heard Cassie's call and rushed over from the shadows, looking at her anxiously. "Are you alright?"

"What could possibly happen to me?" Cassie glared at him and sneered. "Because of you, I almost fell into the water. Luckily, I was quick-witted."

Joseph was initially stunned, but when he caught sight of the maid, his handsome face darkened. He wasn't stupid and could guess what had happened.

"What happened?" Marigold hurried over. She had hoped to see Cassie fall into the pool in her dress, but instead saw the maid being pulled out of the water. She was so angry, especially when she saw Joseph protectively standing by Cassie's side, her hatred for Cassie reached its peak.

Marigold had been looking for Joseph everywhere, but as soon as Cassie called, he came running. She had underestimated Joseph's feelings for Cassie.

"Ms. Dixon," the maid stammered, frightened by Marigold's displeased look. "I don't know how I offended Mrs. Brooks. She suddenly pushed me into the pool."

Everyone turned to look at Cassie.

Marigold angrily said, "Mrs. Brooks, what do you mean by this?"

Lydia added, "Mrs. Brooks, it's not right.. You've already divorced Mr. Hernandez. You can't just ruin Marigold's birthday party because she likes Mr. Hernandez."

The guests started whispering among themselves after hearing Lydia's words.

"So it's because of Joseph and Ms. Dixon's relationship."

"But hasn't she already married David?"

"You don't get it. Some women like to keep lovers. Plus, she might be upset that Joseph's now tied to the Dixon family."

"She looks pretty, but who knew she could be so disgusting."

Those harsh words reached Joseph's ears, and his eyes turned cold. Just as he was about to get angry, Cassie suddenly laughed.

"Are you sure I pushed you?" Cassie looked sharply at the maid. "You said Ms. Miller wanted to see me, so I followed you. When we got to the pool, you said your shoelace was loose, so I waited for you. Then you lunged at me and fell into the water yourself."

"You're lying." The maid, who had made up the story on the spot, panicked when she heard Cassie's clear recounting. "I never said Ms. Miller was looking for you. You asked me to bring you here."

Cassie smirked. "It's obvious you made up this lie in a hurry. Otherwise, how could you forget that there are surveillance cameras all around the pool? Whether I pushed you or not, we can check the footage."

The maid's mind went blank, and she looked to Marigold for help.

Marigold wished she could kick the maid out, but given the situation, she had to say, "I didn't know this would happen today. The cameras aren't on."

"How come? The cameras always seem to be off or missing important footage at the right time." Cassie sighed. "Since that's the case, there's nothing I can do. Whatever you want, I'll apologize if it makes Ms. Dixon feel better. After all, this is your house, and that maid works for you. Only my apology will make you happy."

The guests weren't fools. Cassie's words clearly indicated that Marigold was using her home advantage and the cameras being off to bully and frame her.

Marigold's face turned red with anger. She knew that if she punished Cassie today, she would be labeled as a bully.

She gritted her teeth and then smiled. "I thought the cameras would make everyone uncomfortable. It seems I was overthinking. Let's just forget about it. No one did it on purpose."

"Yes, let's forget it," someone tried to smooth things over. "It must have been a misunderstanding."

"I think Mrs. Brooks was also frightened. Ms. Dixon should give her an extra piece of cake to calm her nerves."

"Yes, let's cut the cake," Marigold said with a smile.

"Wait," Joseph suddenly said coldly. "I heard everyone's discussions earlier and want to clarify something. I'm not in a relationship with Ms. Dixon. I have someone I like, and everyone knows it."

After he finished speaking, his gaze fell on Cassie's face, his feelings evident in his eyes.

Marigold's beautiful face turned pale. She had been openly trying to hold Joseph's hand, and everyone had seen it. She hadn't expected Joseph to embarrass her in public.

It was all Cassie's fault.

Her eyes flashed with hatred.

Cassie's scalp tingled, and her face turned red.

She wished she could kick Joseph into the pool, as he was always causing trouble and making enemies for her. What had she done to deserve this?

The awkward atmosphere lasted until it was time to cut the cake.

Marigold had originally planned to cut the cake with Joseph, but now she had to cancel that plan.
