Chapter 528

Cassie ascended the staircase, each step echoing in the quiet house as she pushed open one door after another. Upon reaching the fourth room, her eyes fell upon a couple nestled on the sofa. The man, tall and strikingly handsome, was none other than Joseph. His head was cradled in Megan's lap as she tenderly stroked his hair.

The sudden intrusion startled them, the door swinging open with a force that echoed through the room.

Cassie stood frozen in the doorway, her gaze fixed on the intimate scene before her. A wave of nausea washed over her, her stomach twisting in discomfort. The sight of the man she loved so deeply, leaning into the embrace of another woman, was more than she could bear.

She was forced to admit that Joseph had never truly let go of Megan. Even if his love for Cassie had waned, shouldn't he at least consider their unborn child?

A surge of anger coursed through her veins and she crossed the room in swift strides.

Megan, caught off guard, hastily pushed Joseph away. "Are you Joseph's wife? This isn't what it looks like..."

Without a word, Cassie snatched a glass of alcohol from the table and flung its contents at Megan's face.

Megan let out a piercing scream.

Joseph, who had been reclining on the sofa nursing a throbbing headache, was abruptly pulled from his painful reverie by the sudden commotion. His eyes snapped open to the sight of Megan, soaked and disheveled, and Cassie, clutching an empty glass, her face a mask of fury.

"What the hell are you doing?" He shot up from the sofa, his gaze fixed on Cassie.

Megan clung to his arm. "Joseph, don't. She didn't mean to. I think there's been a misunderstanding."

Cassie's eyes narrowed at Megan's grip on Joseph's arm. Misunderstanding? Every word Megan spoke dripped with intimacy.

"So, you're Megan?" Cassie's voice was cold, her gaze sharp. "I always believed my husband's first love was pure and kind, but it seems you're just like every other woman who plays the victim while plotting behind the scenes."

Megan paled. "You've got it all wrong. I was just helping Joseph."

"Helping?" Cassie scoffed. "Or perhaps you'd prefer to say that only your bedroom skills can cure him?"

"That's enough." Joseph's voice was stern, his expression dark.

His head throbbed with discomfort, Cassie's words buzzing in his ears like an incessant fly. " Cassie, I told you to stay home, to take care of yourself and our children. Instead, you're here in the middle of the night, hurling accusations. Haven't you had enough?"

Cassie was taken aback. Joseph was the one cavorting with another woman, not her.

Yet, instead of showing remorse or embarrassment, he had the audacity to blame her. "So, I'm the one at fault for interrupting your rendezvous with your ex-lover?" she retorted, her voice laced with bitter sarcasm.

"Enough of your baseless accusations. Apologize to Megan. Now." Joseph's tone was icy.

Apologize? To Cassie, the demand was as ludicrous as the punchline of a bad joke.

"Joseph, it's not necessary," Megan interjected quickly. "Just go back to your wife." No sooner had the words left her mouth than she sneezed, her body shivering.

Joseph immediately shrugged off his jacket and draped it over her.

A sense of hopelessness washed over Cassie. When Joyce Ray had come into their lives, their relationship had nearly crumbled under the strain. Now that Megan had reappeared, was there any hope left for them?

Confusion clouded Cassie's eyes.
