Chapter 168

""Don't you get it? Your life and body are under my control. You lost your independence a long time ago.""

Without another word, Joseph scooped her up with his uninjured arm.

""Joseph...""

""If you're planning to resist, just be quiet,"" he warned with a frown.

""No, I was going to say you can put me down. I can get to my room myself. Don't make your other hand worse,"" Cassie resignedly sighed.

Pleased with her compliant nature, Joseph let her down, and she obediently followed him back to the bedroom.

She intended to resume work after Joseph fell asleep, but as soon as her head touched the pillow, she was fast asleep.

Joseph, fresh from brushing his teeth, saw Cassie asleep on the bed, drooling in her deep slumber.

Suppressing a smirk, he quietly snapped a photo with his phone.

Good, he thought. Let's see how embarrassed she'll be tomorrow.

Satisfied with the picture, he headed to the adjacent study.

In a few swift clicks, he bypassed the laptop's password, opening up complex design drafts that took a day and a half to produce.

Squinting, he considered the excessive demand from Peace Group.

———

At nine in the morning, Cassie woke up to a shocking realization—it was incredibly late.

She scrambled to the study, eager to continue drafting.

But upon opening the software, she froze. The remaining four blueprints were done, and impeccably at that, the ingenuity of the designs matching her own work.

Had her designs been completed? And so perfectly?

Did she sleepwalk and do all this? Or could she have finished them and forgotten entirely?
Struggling to remember, she became certain she hadn't completed the task herself.

But who did it for her?

Walking downstairs in a daze, she wandered into the dining room.

Joseph, clad in a grey lounging outfit, was on the phone with his left hand. ""Mm-hmm, book the afternoon flight, I need to head over to Seaville..."" he murmured into the phone.

After he hung up, Cassie took a seat beside him, her expression one of utter bewilderment. ""You're still planning to travel with things like this?""

""Yeah, urgent business,"" he replied. The investment he had in Seaville was facing some issues, and he had to check on them personally. ""I'll be away for a couple of days. Stay out of trouble while I'm gone...""

""I know, I know, I won't meet up with David or Arthur Lewis."" Cassie rolled her eyes as she echoed his words with a hint of sarcasm, ""Could you possibly come up with something new? I'm so over that line.""

Joseph glared at her, his pride wounded. She was getting bolder, now daring to tease him.

Cassie, however, suddenly gasped, ""Your eyes are bloodshot. Did you have trouble sleeping last night? Was it because... cough cough.""

A pang of concern hit Joseph. She couldn't have guessed that he stayed up last night, working on her blueprints, could she? He didn't want her to know he would do something like that. He quickly retorted with a frigid face, ""Don't get the wrong idea...""

""Sorry, I just choked on my saliva. I figured you were up because of your pain, my fault for being such a heavy sleeper. Why didn't you wake me?"" Cassie said, full of remorse."
