Chapter 1299 I Hate Being Threatened
David checked out Declan's stone-cold face, and even his eyes were like ice—no warmth at all.
David felt a shiver run down his spine.
He had always thought he had Declan under his thumb. Declan had just one kid, and that kid was also Isabella's only son. He figured Declan would do anything for Everett, but man, did he misjudge this guy's cold-bloodedness.
David's lips were white from the pain, sweat dripping down his forehead. His eyes turned nasty. "If you keep this up, you'll be picking up your son's corpse. I've got him stashed where no one will ever find him."
Declan just chuckled, letting him go without a care. "Now we're talking. That's why I can't stand fake people. You nabbed him, just own it. No need for the act."
David stumbled back, clutching his busted wrist, breathing hard. "Declan, say sorry to me right now, or I'll mess up your son so bad the Wittelsbach family won't have an heir."
First thing he did after getting free was to throw another threat at Declan.
Declan's assistant snapped, "If you touch a hair on Everett Wittelsbach, we'll wipe out the Foster family."
David, feeling a bit bolder seeing someone get mad, shot back, "Our Foster family ain't worth as much as Mr. Everett Wittelsbach. Declan, break your own hand, and I'll pretend none of this ever happened."
Before he could finish, Declan kicked him again.
David hit the ground, coughing up blood.
Declan walked over and stomped on his face. "Did you forget what I just said? I don't care if my son loses an arm or a leg, as long as he's breathing. But you? You're scared of dying. Remember, his life is your last ticket to staying alive. Don't throw threats at me; I hate that."
David couldn't move, lying there like a beaten dog, face covered in blood. He'd never been humiliated like this.
He was shaking with rage, but no one came to help him.
Robert and Lars, standing nearby, were already scared out of their minds.
David was a big shot in the business world, Ralph's favorite. He used to beg people for favors, but now everyone wanted his help.
But now, David was getting stomped on like a bug.
"He's hurt bad, and you two are his guys. Aren't you gonna call an ambulance? You want him to die?" Declan shot a look at Robert and Lars.
Lars, scared out of his wits, quickly called for an ambulance.
But it wasn't gonna get there fast. Joseph sneered, "Can you move him out first? There's blood everywhere. It's gross."
"Yeah, it's pretty nasty," Declan said, moving his foot away.
Lars quickly called security to haul David out.
Even though he didn't know who Declan was, the fact that he dared to beat David so openly meant he was someone scary.
But it looked like David had his kid, so this guy probably wouldn't kill David. Today was just about blowing off steam.
As David was dragged away, he shot Declan a nasty glare. "Just you wait."
"I'll be waiting," Declan said, adjusting his shirt and settling back into his chair.
Robert was shaking like a leaf, wishing he could just pass out right there. With David out of commission, how was he supposed to face Declan alone?
What if Declan decided to go after him next? He'd end up just like David.
Thinking about David's injuries made him even more anxious and scared.
Maybe he should just fake a fainting spell so Lars could call off the meeting?
Just as he was mulling this over, Cassie walked up, looking worried. "Dad, what's wrong? Are you about to faint from fear?"
Robert, who was about to play dead, stayed quiet.
"Dad, you can't faint," Cassie said, all concerned. "If you faint, how will you inherit Olivia's hundred billion dollar shares?"
Robert felt so sick he almost puked. If it weren't for everyone else being there, he would've slapped Cassie.
"A hundred billion dollar shares?" Declan toyed with the diamond ring on his finger and chuckled. "How'd you get your hands on that? What are you, a crook?"
The room went dead silent.
Robert's face turned beet red, but he forced himself to speak. "I'm Olivia's father. She's dead and had no kids. According to Madison's laws, her parents should inherit her stuff."
"Are you sure you're her father?" Declan stared him down. "But I remember not too long ago, when we were in Silverwood, you said her dad was someone else, and her mom was my wife Isabella."
Robert stammered, "Did I? Well, legally, she's my daughter."
"Is that so?" Declan reached out to the lawyer next to him.
The lawyer immediately pulled out a stack of papers from his briefcase and handed them over.
Declan tossed the documents in front of Robert. "Then take a good look. Your daughter blew through over nine hundred billion dollars of my wife's money recently. According to your Madison laws, Olivia used our marital property, and I have the right to get that money back. Since she's dead, you, as her father, should pay it back."
"Why?" Robert looked at the numbers on the documents, nearly losing his mind.
He'd never seen so much money in his life.
"You’re a real piece of work. Olivia's dead, and you want her shares, but you don't want to pay back her massive debts? Oh, and here's a paternity test for Olivia. She claimed to be Isabella's biological daughter, but you just shot that down."
Declan threw another test result at him. "Can I take this as your family of three committing fraud? First, you used a paternity test to get close to my wife, making her think Olivia was her long-lost daughter, scamming her out of her money. Now that Olivia's dead, you want to take over the company my wife bought for her?"
Robert was sweating bullets.
That was exactly what he had done.
But he couldn't admit it. Admitting it would be a disaster, and he never wanted to go back to prison.
"I don't know what you're talking about. We didn't know about Olivia's paternity test. All I know is that legally, her parents are Helen and me. We paid for her education and raised her."
