Chapter 806
"Joseph, I've been missing you so much, it's driving me crazy." Megan buried her face in Joseph's chest, tears wetting his shirt. "These days, I've reflected on myself. I've been too foolish, too stupid. I swear, I won't do anything to hurt you again. Please come back. I miss you so much."
After laying Megan on the bed, Joseph turned to the doctor outside and said, "Come in and treat her."
"I don't want it. If you don't agree, I won't get treated." Megan struggled excitedly.
That look annoyed Joseph and a cold seriousness gradually enveloped his handsome face. "Enough. Don't use your own body to threaten me."
Joseph couldn't figure out how Megan had become so irrational and unreasonable, even using the threats he detested against him.
It was the first time Joseph had spoken to Megan in such a cold tone. Megan paused, more tears streaming down. "I don't want this either. I hate myself for becoming like this, but what can I do? Can I just watch as I lose you? I can't do it," she explained sorrowfully.
"Megan, why can't we part amicably?" Joseph inquired.
Joseph wasn't moved but felt waves of exhaustion. "Your legs are your own. If they end up disabled in the future, I won't take responsibility because I didn't push you down the stairs."
Megan couldn't believe the words coming from Joseph, who usually had a gentle and understanding demeanor. Tonight, his words were overturning Megan's perception.
"Mr. Hernandez, you can't agitate Miss Ray any further." Athena urged anxiously. "Don't forget, it was Miss Ray who cured your illness. If it weren't for Miss Ray back in the psychiatric hospital, you wouldn't have been able to face the world bravely."
"So I've decided to marry Megan. It was Megan who did those things," Joseph said irritably, "Now everyone in Whisperlyn City is laughing at me. On the wedding day, it was exposed that you were cheating. I accepted it and forgave you, but why can't you let me go? If Rex hadn't died, maybe you and Rex's affairs would have continued. Megan, don't take me for a fool."
Megan's face instantly drained of color.
She replied, "I won't, Joseph. Don't think of me in such a despicable way."
Suddenly, Megan threw the blanket on the ground, crying uncontrollably. "Why are you saying this about me? I'm in pain too, forced by a disgusting man over and over again." she then yelled out.
"Miss Ray, don't move. Your leg is still injured."
Then Athena anxiously urged Joseph. "Mr. Hernandez, say something kind to persuade Miss Ray. Her leg might really become disabled in this state."
Seeing Megan's hysterical state, Joseph felt a headache coming on.
Joseph turned to the medical staff and then advised, "Hold her down; bind the wound first."
The medical staff exchanged glances and followed Joseph's orders, forcibly pressing Megan down on the bed.
Megan, who had pretended to lose control, was completely caught off guard by Joseph's harshness. She thought Joseph would come to console her until she was restrained. So she was kicking and hitting in anger, even injuring one of the medical staff.
Joseph grabbed one of Megan's feet and had the doctor administer medication.
But as soon as the doctor finished, Megan tore off the bandage, crying. "I don't want it. Without you, I'd rather be disabled."
Joseph, provoked once again, exploded. "Then be disabled. I don't need to be responsible for your life."
"Joseph, you've gone too far." Michael, who had just arrived, heard this and was instantly furious.
"Megan is your lady, your soon-to-be wife. You have to take responsibility for Megan." Michael scoffed and grabbed Joseph, pointing at the heavily injured Megan on the bed. "Have you forgotten your promise to take care of Megan? Is this how you're hurting her?"
"How have I hurt Megan?" Joseph yelled out.
Joseph's patience had run out, and he reprimanded. "Michael, you're not me. You don't understand anything."
"All I know is if you don't marry Megan, her reputation will be ruined for life," Michael said angrily, "Megan loves you. She didn't do these things on purpose. She's a victim. And when you were entangled with Cassie, she never said a bad word about you. Why do you blame her?"
