Chapter 1159 Joseph Stayed Up All Night
Everett came back soon after.
He started chatting about cool stuff from abroad. Despite being young, he knew a lot.
Later, he asked the boss for some dice. With a casual shake, he rolled a stack of ones.
"You're amazing," Cassie said, impressed.
Laura nodded in agreement, murmuring, "Oh my God, your skills are incredible."
"It's just rolling dice. What's so hard about that?" Michael muttered.
"Can you roll six sixes or stack them into a column with six on top?" Laura asked.
Michael went silent.
Cassie's phone rang. It was Joseph.
It was too noisy, so she moved to the side to take the call.
Everett glanced at her, and Michael grinned, "Everett, know who called her?"
Everett's eyes lit up.
"It's her husband and kids," Laura glared at Michael after he spoke.
Michael didn't care and added, "Her kids are five years old."
Everett's grip tightened on his fork. He felt like he'd been hit with cold water.
He smiled bitterly, realizing the woman he liked had a family.
He thought, 'How come? She looks so young.'
Everett watched Cassie. He couldn't hear her, but she looked happy.
He lowered his eyes and took a big gulp of his drink.
Michael smirked, thinking, 'Joseph, I just helped you out. Where else can you find a friend like me?'
When Cassie returned, Everett asked, "Are you married?"
Cassie was surprised and figured Michael had said something. Her situation was complicated; she wasn't divorced from David but had a boyfriend.
"Yes," Cassie nodded after a moment. "I also have twins."
Everett said, "You got married too early."
"It's not that early; I'm not that young anymore," Cassie replied.
Everett gloomily drank another beer. He felt like crying to Declan about his breakup.
They finished their meal around eleven. Cassie asked Michael to drop Everett at his hotel before saying goodbye.
Watching Everett leave, Cassie looked back a few times.
"Can't bear to part? Regretting getting back with Joseph so soon?" Laura teased. "I get it now. I see why men date younger women and women date younger men."
"Laura, remember, you're married," Michael reminded her, annoyed.
"In name only," Laura shot back. "Focus on driving and stop making that face. I didn't think much of it before, but after seeing Everett, you really do look old."
Michael thought, 'Old? Come on! People say I look like I'm in my early twenties. Is Laura blind?'
He was about to explode with anger.
"Uncle Michael, sometimes you gotta face the reality of aging," Laura added.
"Alright, stop provoking him. We're still in the car, and I don't want an accident," Cassie said helplessly.
Laura finally went quiet, letting out a sigh that made Michael's heart ache.
He wondered, 'Is she sighing because Cassie has Joseph or because she is married and can't find a boyfriend?'
When they got to the Miller Manor, Cassie and Laura quickly went upstairs to rest.
Michael tossed and turned, unable to sleep. Eventually, he sat up and looked in the mirror, first at his eyebrows, then at his lips.
Finally, he couldn't take it anymore and messaged the group: [Do you guys think I'm quite handsome? We are supposed to be the most handsome in Madison, each with his unique charm.]
Lucas: [If you're sick, take your medicine.]
Joseph: [Zombies might have eaten your brain.]
Michael: [Get lost. I met a mixed-race kid today named Everett. Cassie and Laura were almost swooning over him.]
Joseph: [If you're lying, I'll kick your ass!]
Noah: [A kid?]
Michael: [He's twenty-one. Laura almost drooled over him. Cassie even taught him how to roll a burrito and made one for him. After the late-night meal, Cassie made me drive him back.]
After sending the message, Michael felt oddly pleased. If he was in a bad mood, Joseph shouldn't be happy either.
Joseph: [Are you kidding me?]
Lucas: [It's late. Do you want to keep Joseph up all night fuming?]
Noah: [Great, now Joseph will probably make me pick him up at Silverwood Airport in the middle of the night.]
Michael: [Joseph, I did you a favor. While Cassie was away, I told Everett she was married with kids. I saw his heartbreak right then and there.]
Joseph: [Cassie would never be interested in him. Besides, is there anyone in Madison more handsome than me?]
Noah: [I've never seen anyone more shameless than Joseph.]
Lucas: [Me neither.]
Michael couldn't stand Joseph's arrogance and replied: [To be honest, Everett is quite handsome. Laura said he looked like an elf prince. Cassie said he felt familiar and kind. Oh, and Laura also said that after seeing Everett, she thought I looked too old.]
Lucas: [After seeing Everett, Cassie probably won't think Joseph is too old either.]
Noah: [Joseph, Michael, hold on. We may be older, but age has its charm.]
Joseph: [Shut up! Noah, pick me up at Silverwood Airport in three hours.]
Noah: [Michael, damn it. Couldn't you wait until you got back to Whisperlyn City to say this?]
Michael: [I suddenly feel a bit better. I think I can sleep now.]
The next day, Cassie woke up at seven a.m. She had trouble sleeping in unfamiliar places. Not wanting to wake Laura, she quietly got dressed and went downstairs.
When she saw Joseph sitting in the living room, she was stunned, thinking she was still dreaming. She couldn't believe she was seeing Joseph there.
