Chapter 963 She Actually Said He... Was Narrow-Minded
Laura quickly understood what Cassie had said. "Yeah, are you guys really going to block me? Fine, I'll call James. Just a reminder, I'm the fiancée of Michael Jude."
Felix was taken aback.
He thought, 'The Jude family is likely to produce a president next year. Right now, the Chamberlain family is desperately trying to curry favor with James. If we offended him, it would be a big problem.'
Felix almost overlooked Laura's esteemed status as Cassie's close friend.
"It's all a misunderstanding," Felix quickly shifted his demeanor, offering a warm smile. "I was simply intrigued by the individual willing to put up 7 billion dollars in one go."
Laura smirked. "We had no intention of making a purchase. We just found it amusing how some families were adding mere hundreds or thousands, tarnishing the reputation of larger clans."
Felix's face turned sullen, but he had to hold it out.
David also lowered his eyes, his expression subtle.
"Let's go." Cassie grabbed Laura's hand. As they passed by David, Cassie paused. "Are you coming with us, or do you want to stay and chat with Felix?"
"I'll go with you." David's gentle gaze enveloped Cassie.
After the four left, Felix angrily kicked over a nearby trash can.
Luna sneered. "I never thought Cassie's friend would latch onto the Jude family. But it's no big deal. It's just an engagement. Who knows, she might get dumped someday. Everyone knows Michael only loves Megan."
Felix raised an eyebrow. "How's your relationship with Megan?"
"It's... not great," Luna responded awkwardly. "But Evelyn is close to Megan."
Luna had been jealous of Megan because Joseph liked her since they were kids.
"Although Megan is not close to us, she can be useful," Felix said, raising an eyebrow, "If I get along well with her, I wouldn't mind helping her to marry into the Jude family."
"True, since Laura doesn't get along with us. If she marries into the Jude family and sows discord, it wouldn't be good for the Chamberlain family." Luna nodded in agreement.
In the present scenario, regardless of one's wealth, maintaining a positive relationship with the president was imperative.
When Marcus arrived at the buyer's box, he found it deserted, with only a cup of steaming coffee left on the table.
"Marcus, I'm sorry. The buyer has already left, but their secretary is over there dealing with the auction staff," the cleaning staff informed him.
Marcus gestured to his assistant, who hurriedly left to attend to the situation.
Evelyn, holding onto Marcus's arm, remarked, "Marcus, who would dare to disrespect you like this? We should ensure they face consequences."
"Maybe... it's not someone from the country." Marcus's face was sullen. No matter who it was, openly defying Marcus after his threat was a slap in his face.
Marcus cursed inwardly, 'Twenty billion dollars. Damn it. Evidently, he wanted the Hernandez family to make more money. The current market value of the Hernandez House is at most 15 billion dollars. Who on earth wants to help the Hernandez family?'
As Marcus turned around, Mabel came running into the box, panting. When she saw Marcus, a flash of disgust crossed her eyes.
Marcus felt a chill in his heart, unable to believe that Mabel still dared to "disgust" him.
As Marcus was the richest man in Madison, he never felt disgusted by Mabel.
"Are you looking for that buyer?" Marcus sneered. "Are you planning to sell your body to him? Mabel, you are worn with age. Don't do such shameless things." Marcus remarked.
"You got here even faster than me. Are you planning to latch onto that buyer? Rich people don't like old men like you." Mabel sneered.
Evelyn said sarcastically, "Marcus is so rich that people usually cling to him. Besides, from the buyer's voice, you can tell it's a man."
"Yes, it's a man, but he's more generous than the Chamberlain family. Seven billion and one hundred dollars! Marcus, it's the first time the richest man in Madison has been so stingy. I feel ashamed for you." Mabel said and turned to leave.
She was truly disgusted by Marcus.
She thought, 'How could someone be so stingy?'
Marcus roared in frustration, "Mabel, I'm not stingy. I don't want you to make more money."
"That's stingy. We were married for decades, I bore your children, and before marriage, I contributed at least ten billion dollars to your Chamberlain family. Even after our divorce, I didn't claim a penny.
Not even a house, not a single cent. Marcus, I admit you're shrewd, but you're narrow-minded. People who do great things don't fuss over small money." Mabel calmly looked back at Marcus. "The Chamberlain family's current status is a result of your schemes and exploitation of others. But your reign won't last. Those in power always prioritize their own interests. Eventually, you'll lose respect."
Mabel left without looking back. What she said were like slaps, hitting Marcus hard in the face.
Marcus, in a fit of rage, swept the cups off the table.
He cursed in mind, 'Mabel actually called me... narrow-minded and stingy! Fine! Mabel, one day, you'll pay for your words.'
Soon, the assistant came in. "Marcus, I just met the buyer's assistant. After I introduced myself, he... completely ignored me."
"You told him you were my assistant, and he still dared to ignore you?" Marcus asked coldly.
"Yes, I checked the surveillance. His boss is a man, wearing sunglasses and a hat." The assistant replied.
Marcus's gaze turned icy. "Monitor the Hernandez House closely. Since he purchased it, he will appear. I want to see who dares to oppose me."
In the parking lot.
Laura patted Cassie's shoulder. "Since Mr. Foster is here, I won't see you off. Let Mr. Foster take you home and... give him the watch."
"A Watch?" David's eyes lit up.
Laura, already smiling, said, "Yes, Cassie said she upset you and bought a watch to apologize. It's quite expensive—tens of thousands of dollars. Alright, I'm leaving."
Laura left quickly, but Cassie was left feeling very awkward.
"Cassie, hop in the car," David directed, then glanced at Lola. "You can find your own way back."
"Wait. It's okay to give Lola a ride," Cassie interjected, concerned about Laura taking a cab alone at night.
"No need, I'll just take a cab," Lola said with a smile.
