Chapter 1510 After the Divorce, She Is Doing Better and Better

"Hey, after you finish eating, wanna catch a movie with me?" Derek asked, flashing his charming smile. "There's this new suspense film that just came out last night, and I'm dying to see it."

Laura had heard about the movie too. It was getting rave reviews and killing it at the box office.

But it felt kinda rude to ditch Remy right after dinner, especially if Remy had other plans.

"It's cool if you don't," Derek said, looking a bit bummed as he started to walk away when she didn't answer right away.

"No, it's fine. Go ahead and get the tickets. I should be done with dinner by eight," Laura replied.

"Great, I'll grab tickets for eight-thirty. Just text me the restaurant address, and I'll swing by to pick you up," Derek said, his eyes lighting up.

"Okay," Laura nodded. After Derek left, she felt a twinge of regret. She had dinner plans with Remy and now a movie with Derek. It felt a bit like she was juggling too much.

Lost in thought, Laura made her way to the office.

Her colleagues had left her a bunch of small Christmas gifts. They weren't pricey, but it was the thought that counted.

By the end of the workday, a bunch of guys had shown up to pick up their girlfriends, including Joseph, who had Sophia and Oliver in tow.

"Auntie Laura, Merry Christmas! We're gonna have yummy food with Mommy and Daddy," Sophia said, grinning under her Santa hat. "Wanna join us?"

"Laura's got a date tonight," Cassie teased, giving Sophia's cheek a gentle pinch. Then she turned to Laura, "Need a ride? We can drop you off if no one's picking you up."

Laura shook her head but then hopped into Cassie's car without a second thought.

After giving Joseph the address, he drove them there.

In the car, Sophia piped up, "Auntie Laura, is your date your boyfriend? He doesn't seem very nice. It's Christmas, and he didn't come to pick you up. That's not cool."

"I didn't ask him to," Laura said with a smile. It was their first date, and she didn't want Remy knowing where she worked just yet.

"You didn't ask him to do it, and he indeed didn't show up. Is that so?" Sophia pouted. "Look at my daddy. Even when Mommy says not to come, he still shows up. Daddy says women always say one thing and mean another."

Laura laughed, "Sophia, you know so much. Are you thinking about dating already?"

"What's so great about dating? Eating is way better," Sophia said, puffing out her cheeks, making everyone laugh.

The car ride was filled with laughter, and even the usually serious Oliver cracked a few smiles.

Laura felt a pang of envy. Not too long ago, she, Maeve, and Michael had a similar family vibe, but it didn't last.

Moments like these made Laura's heart ache a bit. It wasn't that she couldn't move on from Michael; she just hated how he shirked his responsibilities towards Maeve.

When they arrived, Laura waved goodbye to Cassie's family and headed to the restaurant across the street.

A guy in his thirties stood at the entrance, rocking a navy business jacket, brown casual pants, and black leather shoes. He had glasses and this whole intellectual vibe going on.

Laura recognized him right away—it was Remy. She'd seen his photos before, but he looked even better in person.

Remy spotted Laura too. She was in a burgundy coat, her curly hair cascading over her shoulders, and her striking features were even more pronounced. Even the wind messing with her hair looked good on her.

As Remy walked over, he noticed her light makeup. She was stunning and didn't look like someone who'd been married and had a kid.

Even though Remy had seen plenty of beautiful women in college, he couldn't help but feel a little flutter in his heart.

Remy couldn't wrap his head around why Michael, with such a gorgeous wife at home, would go looking for other women. Maybe men from wealthy families had different mindsets.

"Hey, I'm Remy," he said, extending his hand. "Nice to meet you."

"Nice to meet you too. I'm Laura," she replied, shaking his hand.

"Laura, come on in. I've already got us a table," Remy said warmly. "I should've picked you up, but I had a class that ended at five-thirty, and it's a bit of a trek from the university."

"No worries. I work nearby, so it was easy for me to get here," Laura said.

Once they sat down, they started chatting. Remy was way more relaxed in person than he seemed on Facebook. As a physics professor, he was super knowledgeable. But when the convo drifted into physics, Laura struggled to keep up since science was never her strong suit.

They talked about their pasts. Most people knew Laura's story, but Remy had been married abroad. He and his ex-wife had fallen in love at first sight but divorced when they realized they weren't compatible. Now, Remy's parents were looking after his kid since he was often busy and sometimes had to do secret experiments.

Halfway through the meal, Laura got up to use the restroom.

Just then, Derek sent her a Facebook message: [How's the date going?]

Laura looked down to reply and accidentally bumped into a wheelchair.

"Watch where you're going!"

A familiar voice snapped. Laura looked up, stunned, and saw Michael's expressionless face.

Since their last encounter at Maeve's celebration party, Laura hadn't seen Michael. He didn't look great. His once clean-cut, handsome face now had stubble, and he didn't look as young and sharp as before.

The wheelchair Laura had bumped into belonged to Megan. She was sitting in it, wearing a mask, with only her forehead and eyes visible. She looked really thin, with fine lines under her eyes.

Both of them had changed, making Laura feel a bit dazed.

Michael was also taken aback. His eyes flashed with surprise. Laura had clearly dressed up today. He could tell she was wearing the makeup she had once mentioned, and her clothes really suited her. Her skin looked amazing.

Since their divorce, Laura hadn't shown any signs of distress. She seemed to be doing better and better.
