Chapter 11 A man's blurred silhouette
Robert's slap left Cassie's face instantly red.
"Alright, I will leave." She didn't believe that without her Senior Designer and First-Class Architect certificates, she wouldn't be able to find work elsewhere.
She stormed back to her office, hastily packed her things into a cardboard box, and walked out.
Along the way, people whispered and pointed at her, discussing in hushed tones.
"I heard she schemed against Ms. Olivia Brooks and got fired by Mr. Brooks!"
"She even schemed against her sister. She's too narrow-minded. I heard Ms. Olivia Brooks was abducted as a child and went through a lot before being found."
"Ms. Brooks is kind and gentle. Yesterday, she brought us food to thank us for working overtime."
"Serves Cassie right!"
Cassie chuckled self-deprecatingly.
She believed that since joining the company, she had never thrown a tantrum because she was one of the heirs, and she had always worked diligently.
She had been friendly and polite to everyone, never expecting to end up in such a situation.
After leaving the company, she aimlessly drove around.
During this time, Arthur called several times, but she didn't answer.
Realizing she had nowhere to go, she bought some snacks and groceries and headed straight back to Emerald Bay.
Upon entering, Dakota wagged its tail and ran over. Cassie patted its head and said dejectedly, "Dakota, it seems you're the only one who still likes me now."
Dakota closed her eyes comfortably, enjoying the touch.
Joseph didn't come back at noon, so she relaxed on the sofa with her notebook, looking for work.
By ten in the evening, Joseph returned to a brightly lit room. A pile of snacks was on the table.
With a cold expression, he glanced at Cassie on the sofa and Dakota lying on her lap, sesame seeds from beef sticking to the cat's whiskers. "Did you feed it junk food while I was gone?"
Cassie cautiously replied, "Dakota kept pestering me for it. I couldn't help it."
Annoyed, Joseph swept the snacks into the trash. "Don't eat this junk at home anymore. I don't like the smell either."
Cassie looked pained as she watched the discarded snacks but forced a smile. "Joey, you're right. I won't eat it anymore."
Uninterested in her fake face, Joseph picked Dakota up and headed to the bedroom.
"Joey, are you hungry? Should I cook you some spaghetti?" Cassie nervously followed.
Joseph hesitated for a moment; he was indeed a bit hungry. The dishes at the evening social event were too spicy, and he hadn't eaten much.
Cassie quickly suggested, "Why don't you take a shower first? I'll cook some spaghetti."
Joseph glanced back at her and then went straight to the room.
Fifteen minutes later, Cassie walked to the master bedroom door with the cooked spaghetti. She knocked, but no one answered, so she gently pushed the door open. "Joey, the spaghetti is ready."
The bedroom was empty, but the frosted glass of the bathroom faintly reflected his blurry silhouette.
A vivid image involuntarily popped into her mind, the touch on her hand feeling so real. The more she thought about it, the more embarrassed she became.
As she turned to leave, the sliding door suddenly opened. Joseph walked out, wearing only a towel around his waist. His hair was still wet, water droplets sliding down his handsome face and into his chest.
Her gaze followed the water droplets downward, her breath catching. While she knew he had a good physique, she didn't expect it to be this impressive.
His muscles were tight and exuded the unique charm of a mature man. Her eyes traveled further down to his narrow waist.
"Have you seen enough?" Joseph's cold voice suddenly came from above.
Cassie snapped back to reality, her face blushing with shame. "I brought you the spaghetti."
Setting down the plate, Cassie prepared to leave but stumbled on the carpet, losing her balance and falling forward.
In the chaos, she desperately grabbed onto something to steady herself. With a muffled sound, Cassie found herself pressed against Joseph's soft body.
